課程概述 |
本課旨在介紹美國史重要史實的發生背景、影響及史學解釋。本學期將從上學期中止處(AP第十章)，即十九世紀上半葉開始。教學方式以課堂講授為主，輔以影片。本課程的教科書為Gary B. Nash, et al , The American People: Creating a Nation and a Society, 6th Edition (Pearson Education, 2004)(以下簡稱為AP)第一冊及第二冊，為必讀教材。本書從普通人的角度來了解歷史上的公共事件如總統選舉、世界大戰等是如何影響了個人的生活，而個人又如何塑造了歷史。 |

課程目標 |
除了了解美國史上基本史實與解釋外，也要訓練學生親自研讀、分析史料。 |

課程要求 |
因為本教科書是英文，務請課前預讀，查好生字有助於上課聽講。學生要練習注釋一篇史 料，並根據該史料寫作一短篇2~3頁研究論文。 |

每位同學在Hoffman and Gjerde eds. Major Problems in American History vol. I and II, Documents and Essays書中挑選一篇史料做名詞注釋(或他史料，但須經教師事先同意)，並針對該史料撰寫一篇2-3
頁的報告，練習撰寫研究論文。該論文之內容應包括四部分：第一、這史料是什麼？作者是誰？在什麼情況之下產生這篇史料？第二、介紹這篇史料的內容。第三、這件史料的歷史背景？第四、在歷史脈絡下，這件史料有何意義？對了解當時歷史有何重要性。論文之後請附上參考書目。 |
